Intro to Kathak

Duration: 8-week series (offered twice a year)
For: Absolute beginners

This series is a crash course in Kathak fundamentals — perfect for anyone new to the form. Students learn basic stance, footwork patterns, spins, hand gestures, and taal patterns & exercises while exploring Kathak’s connection to music.

Intermediate 1

For: Dancers with at least 1 year of prior Kathak training

Intermediate 1 is the entry point for ongoing training at Oorja. Classes build on the basics through more complex compositions, short sequences, and tukdas and todes. Students also begin exploring expressive elements and performance readiness, developing both clarity and confidence.

Intermediate 2

For: Dancers with 1–2 years of consistent Kathak training

This level deepens technique and musical understanding through advanced footwork, extended compositions, and abhinaya. Regular training includes both nritta (pure dance) and nritya (expressive dance) practice.

Advanced 1

For: Experienced Kathak dancers with 2 or more years of formal training

Advanced 1 focuses on mastery, performance, and choreographic development. Dancers work on complex rhythmic cycles, improvisation, storytelling, and repertoire pieces while strengthening stamina and artistry.
